At the end of July I visited the British Museum which is an example of Greek Revival Architecture. The south entrance is quite obviously designed with the greeks in mind, with the ionic columns which were frequently used in classical greek architecture. In addition the pediment above the columns is a common feature of greek architecture and other examples can be seen on other pieces of greek architecture such as The Parthenon. I like Greek Revival Architecture because the idea of it is along the same lines as my project to create a modernised greek temple.
In addition to the exterior of The British Museum I went inside to the greek rooms within the museum. In the Greek rooms were a lot of pieces of the exterior of several greek buildings. Seeing these up close has given me an insight into how they would have been originally when they were first built. Additionally there was a room on the Parthenon from Greece which contained several pieces (including sculptures) from the temple in Athens. This will help me for my project because it allows me to visualise the old temples to give me inspiration for my new one; it was the next best thing without actually going to Greece.
